Poetry in Black and White is an interdisciplinary art series exploring the tension between human creativity and algorithmically generated processes. At its core, the project poses a fundamental question: How far can machine systems serve as catalysts for new forms of expression — and at what point does creative responsibility and meaning-making remain an inherently human endeavor?

The series consists of six strictly monochrome fine art motifs (direct print on aluminum dibond, 20×20 cm). Color is deliberately omitted in the visual concept to bring structure, contrast, and form to the forefront — creating a universal, archetypal visual language. The work thrives on the polarity between black and white, light and darkness, visibility and omission.

Motifs and Thematic Structure

At the heart of the series are six entities — BOWL, GALLIC, PEARL, SHAAK, PULS, and VIKING — each poetically described, sonically interpreted, and visually composed:

BOWL preserves what has been lost — a vessel for memory.
GALLIC observes without end — a silent sentinel in the dark.
PEARL protects the delicate — a repository of forgotten feelings.
SHAAK craves more — a being of pure hunger.
PULS listens into the depths — a sensor for sound and the world.
VIKING fends off the darkness — a system with a sharpened double blade.

Multimedia Dimension

A central element of the series is the use of a so-called Vibrant Responsive Code — each physical artwork is extended by a digital layer of interaction. Scanning the code with a mobile device opens up a cross-media experience space:

Sound collages create distinct acoustic atmospheres, deepening the emotional reading of each motif.
Spoken texts offer associative, poetic reflections on the entities.
Moving images expand the visual dimension with animated facets.

The result is a synesthetic experience that interweaves image, sound, and language. Nothing remains static — each encounter with the works is potentially different, shaped by access, context, and personal perception.

Critical Reflection

Poetry in Black and White understands itself as an artistic exploration of the possibilities and limitations of AI-assisted image production. While machine and code can suggest a multitude of visual and formal variations, the conceptual vision, final curation, and ethical framing remain firmly in human hands.
