Road Beauties — so fresh and so cool.
She was the one at fault. A series of 60 episodes, spread across six seasons, captured my thoughts and inspired me to dive into this exploration. Snow-Fall — her name, a show that paints the backdrop of 80s LA.
My own memories from that time came to mind. An era of bold colors and geometric patterns, soaked in Miami Vice, Magnum, and Knight Rider. Perms, aerobics, roller skates, and broad-shouldered jackets defined the fashion; Grace Jones, Prince, Molokko, N.D.W., and N.W.A. defined the music.
Snow-Fall, with its 60 episodes, masterfully sketched the atmosphere of the 80s in South Central Los Angeles. The warm light of the Pacific coast, the unique characters including their outfits, the interior design, the locations and street scenes — all of it kept my eyes locked.
The true jewel of the 70s and 80s for me were always the American cruisers. Works of art in metal, chrome, paint, and rubber. True road beauties that didn't just rule the asphalt — they reignited in me the flames of nostalgia for an era that was just as eccentric, vibrant, experimental, and expressive as the cultural spirit it produced.
