TRASHION — plastic takes the throne

10 to 20 years. That's how long it takes a plastic shopping bag to completely decompose in the ocean.

The situation with PET bottles is even more drastic: It takes around 450 years for plastic bottles to decompose in the water and sink to the bottom of the sea in the form of microplastics.

From 1950 to today, about 8 billion tons of plastic have already been produced worldwide.

WWF's 2021 plastics report warns that plastic production will double and plastic pollution will triple by 2040.

The handling of waste is one of the most important environmental issues worldwide — and plastic waste, which is difficult or impossible to decompose, is taking on an increasingly central role.

The question I ask myself is, what are we leaving for future generations hundreds of years from now? A pile of garbage? Collected in tons of garbage bags?

This is the idea behind my Midjourney Exploration. Fashion in a time where only garbage exists; trash fashion in a littered world — trashion.

In my iterations of this route, I started with a 2:3 full-body shot of the model in the style of a fashion designer.

In the second step, the prompt describes the environment in which the model image should be placed. I use the zoom-out function with the value 1.5 and the aspect ratio 16:9.

In step 3 I expand the image with the Pan function ➡️ or ⬅️.
