ANTARCTICA

A Visual Generative Novel

For centuries, stories have swirled around this most remote part of the Earth: Antarctica. A land that harbors more secrets and legends than any other continent.

Tales of alien artifacts buried deep beneath ancient ice, mysterious signals sent from unfathomable depths, fueling speculation about lost civilizations and worlds unknown.

Poets and explorers spoke of a continent unlike any other — a place where the boundaries of the known blur and the unknown resides. Antarctica, a realm of mysteries, a last untouched corner of our world, waiting to be discovered.

Since childhood, I’ve been captivated by this world, watching every documentary, reading every book, weaving stories with my friends about the myths of Antarctica.

Now, not quite fifty years later, the time has come. With a small crew, I’ve embarked on a journey to the southernmost part of the globe.

Starting in Reykjavik, Iceland, we’ve been at sea for nearly 23 days. Our route took us across the equator, along the South American coast until we reached the Drake Passage, which greeted us with rough seas and fierce winds.

Now, in the calmer waters around the Antarctic Peninsula, we head further south toward Belgrano Base, our destination.

It’s freezing. Water and ice, a misty atmosphere envelops us. Unreal and beautiful.

I love this quiet sea, the majestic icebergs, far from any civilization, and the subject of many wondrous stories and myths.

We drop anchor and secure the ship for the night.

Morning sun.

I prepare for my dive. Oxygen tanks, dry suit, equipment check. And then, I go.

I glide with my small Zodiac through the calm, crystal-clear, deep water, past enormous ice formations, searching for the right spot to dock and dive. I let myself drift and trust my intuition. I’ll know where to dive.

This is the spot.

Securing the boat, I slide into the icy sea.

Silence. An even greater silence than above the surface envelops me. Only my breaths and the strong beat of my heart break this peace.

I linger just below the surface, marveling at this beautiful world of frozen history from millennia past. Miles thick, meters deep.

I dive deeper and deeper into the icy sea. Darkness surrounds me. Dancing light, refracted from the surface, accompanies me into the endless depth.

Hey! What’s that?

A ship, long sunk. Covered in crystalline structures. Is it a ship? The entire form is indiscernible. Too vast is the structure before me.
